The clothes used by ordinary people will be different from the clothes used by the nobility and the middle class. In addition, clothing used for daily activities is also different from clothing used for traditional events and weddings.

Traditional Folk Custom Clothing (Pangsi Clothes)

Pangsi clothing are traditional clothes intended for ordinary people who are generally worn by men, black. As the name suggests, Pangsi which means simple, shabby, and obsolete which describes the ordinary caste of the people.

For men, they usually wear pants with a rather large size (loose) or commonly called “komprang pants” or pangsi. For superiors, they usually wear salontreng clothes. But often the upper and lower alloys of clothing are referred to as clothes only.

Traditional Folk Clothing (Kebaya Sunda)

If we were discussing ordinary people’s clothing for men, women still use kebaya as their clothing, usually using subordinates in the form of kebat or sarong or commonly called sinjang bundles. Then also wear beubeur (belt), camisole, and kebaya equipped with batik-patterned scarves. And for footwear wearing keteplek flip flops.

Middle-class traditional clothing (clothes and modern kebaya)

Clothing for the middle class is for the rich but not of royal descent which if men use white cloths, batik kebat cloth, footwear in the form of shoes, using headbands and udeng. Women use kebaya, kebat batik, jewelry, and sandals slippers.

Noble Customs Clothing (Gold Thread Embroidery Velvet Suit)

Sundanese traditional clothes for noble descendants use a black velvet suit with a fabric that has gold thread embroidery, wearing black pants with a short cloth. Likewise with the women also use black clothes made from velvet with gold embroidery.

Not to forget also as an additional accessory used is in the form of a hair bun (bun), rings, hairpin, chain pins, and brooches, furthermore no less important is wearing jewelry that is usually studded with diamonds or gold.

Official Sundanese Indigenous Clothing (Beskap)

If you used to know caste, now that caste is gone. So, for official events that will use beskap for men. Beskap is a shirt that has thick fabric, usually black with a thick collar that is rather heavy.

The goal is to anticipate the use of keris accessories which may be quite heavy. The button pattern is also usually quite unique, namely its sideways shape.

Sundanese Traditional Clothing (Mojang Jajaka)

Furthermore, there are Sundanese Indigenous clothes that are specifically used for Sundanese young people. Usually the mojang (women) and jajaka (men) both use a plain top and usually have a color other than black. Men wear short batik pants and women wear long batik pants.

Bridal Traditional Clothing

Traditional wedding dress in Sundanese is not much different from the custom in Java, which uses a flexible kebaya color for women, only the difference in using head accessories in the form of a crown and men in prangwedana open suits.

Children’s Traditional Clothing

If Sundanese traditional clothes for children are also very flexible, usually for girls to use Sundanese kebaya clothes and use kebat cloth for their subordinates. Whereas boys use beskap with kebat cloth for their subordinates and use a bendo head covering.
