History of the Discovery of Muaro Jambi Temple

According to its history, this temple was first reported by a lieutenant from England named S.C Crooke in 1824. Crooke was originally tasked with conducting a watershed mapping for military purposes, and accidentally found the temple.

The Indonesian government itself only carried out restoration and maintenance of the temple in 1975, which was directly led by R. Soekmono. R. Soekmono is the first archaeologist from Indonesia, who was also in charge of leading the restoration of the Borobudur temple.

Based on the script carvings on the temple plate, it is estimated that this temple has existed since the 7-12 century AD. In this temple complex, there are about nine temples with Buddhist patterns, namely Kotomahligai, Kedaton, Gumpung, Gedong Satu, Gedong Dua, Telago Rajo, Kembar Batu, Astano temples and also Tingi temples.
